Conceptualism

& Symbolism

With these two ideas I explore telling stories and invoking emotions by attempting to create and capture them in a single glimpse or in various moments.

The process of creating something that is able to show a idea, feeling, or story in a single image can be challenging. Whether it comes from: fantasy, reality, culture, beauty, music, the human psyche, tragedy, trauma, etc. Using symbolic images or poses is a key concept in my paintings, illustrations, or photography. They can be blatant or subtle part of the piece.

Photo of boudoir, straps, lace, and a killer body with harsh shadows/lighting.
Photo of fairy enjoying the blooming of springtime.
Outdoor dark photoshoot. Donnie Darko theme in a animal house/forest.
Photo of never having a dull moment with the family! Where do you stand in you family's list of personalities?

These hidden or in your face symbols come in forms that you can either easily recognize or they will make you sit and linger trying to find them and their purpose.

As you can see, depending on the moment the atmosphere can be: funny, serious, delicate, sympathetic, heavy, creative, freeing, healing, etc.

Oil painting on canvas of the mindset of being in the military and being told where to go with little to no say.
Oil painting on wood panel. How life has got you down but not out.
Oil on wood panel. Self portrait and where I've traveled/lived.
Acrylic Painting on canvas panel of my interpretation of the song

There are so many different ways to tell a story or convey a feeling. I enjoy exploring what these various forms can take when either, creating them myself or collaborating with others.
